ABOUT US
CMMI
In July 2007, SRA received a company-wide Level 3 rating on the Software Engineering Institute (SEI) Capability Maturity Model IntegrationSM (CMMI®). This CMMI rating was earned through a Standard CMMI Appraisal Method for Process Improvement (SCAMPI) appraisal lead by an SEI-authorized lead evaluator from Process Improvement for the 21st Century, Inc., (PI-21). The appraisal involved extensive review of SRA’s software development and project management processes, training and tools. SRA uses a common set of engineering and management processes across all business units. The CMMI Level 3 rating demonstrates that SRA consistently uses best practices in software and system engineering and project management, enhancing our ability to design and build systems better, faster and cost-effectively.
In April 2009, SRA demonstrated the successful transition to version 1.2 of the CMMI-DEV® model by once again receiving a Maturity Level 3 rating. This appraisal was conducted using the updated v1.2 SCAMPI appraisal method on a subset of SRA consisting of two business units within the Health and Civil Services Sector: Financial and Government Operations (FGO) and Environmental and Organizational Services (EOS). The appraisal was lead by Patrick O’Toole, an SEI-authorized lead evaluator from Process Assessment, Consulting, and Training (PACT).
SRA has a history of successful CMM and CMMI appraisals starting in the 1990s. We received our first independent SW-CMM Level 3 rating in May 2001. SRA is now pursuing a CMMI Level 4 rating by using metrics to better understand, predict and optimize our processes, which will reduce development costs and schedules while improving quality. These improvements help ensure that SRA will continue to provide outstanding products and services of increasing value to our customers.
CMMI ratings assist customers in selecting reliable and low-risk suppliers of software products and services. Developed by the Software Engineering Institute (SEI), the CMMI model can be used to guide process improvement across a project, division, or entire organization. CMMI helps set process improvement goals and priorities, provides guidance for quality processes, and offers a point of reference for appraising current processes.
CMMI best practices enable organizations to:
- Adopt a systematic approach for defining, using, assessing and improving the processes that are essential for success in software development and maintenance projects
- Explicitly link management and engineering activities to customer and business objectives through quantitative measurement and analysis
- Enhance visibility into the product development lifecycle
- Help ensure that products and services meet customer requirements and expectations
